Luna Floretta (Flo) Roumillat, age 80, of Dacula, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Flo was born in East Point Georgia on October 25, 1941 to the parents of Ulysses Charles Roumillat, Sr. and Luna Roumillat.
Flo attended Georgia Tech in 1959 and shortly transferred to night school at Georgia State University where she began work as a laboratory assistant at the Georgia State Health Department. In 1961 she started her 30-year civil service career at the Centers for Disease Control. In 1969 Flo attended Tulane University and received a Master of Science Degree in Hygiene. Thereafter, she returned to the CDC where she was awarded a full scholarship to attend The University of Georgia where she received her PhD in Microbiology. Flo was also awarded the James H. Nakano citation for an outstanding scientific, publication in 1985. Her career gave her the opportunity to travel and meet a variety of interesting people from around the world. In 1992 after 30 years, Flo retired from the CDC. She then worked in Mexico City for the Ministry of Health and, after one year, returned home. When asked about her life experience and career some time ago, Flo responded, “I thank God for a wonderful and exciting ride”.
Flo’s hobbies, interests and volunteer work through the years included the following: (1960’s): Volunteer work with children at Central Baptist Mission near the Atlanta Stadium; Water-skiing; Backpacking; Built a Duplex in Tucker: (1970’s): Raised Horses and cows and worked an 100 acre farm; Raised Schnauzers; (1980’s): Bought an airplane and took flying lessons; Owned and ran a Hobby and Craft Store. Owned and ran a Photography Laboratory; (1990’s through recent years): Bought and sold foreclosure houses. Enjoyed remodeling houses, including hers; Planted and enjoyed a vegetable garden, vineyard, fruit tree and blueberry bushes and enjoyed the fruits of that labor; Painted Oil Pictures; Traveled the U.S. and around the World; Enjoyed fishing; Enjoyed cooking and canning (primarily jams); Enjoyed her pet Schnauzer (Scharf); Flo especially loved and enjoyed time with family and friends, as well as her fellowship at Hebron Baptist Church with the Joy Sunday School Class. Flo’s deep faith, love for Jesus and others, as well as her generosity, was an example to all. Her amazing spirit of love will be missed and long remembered.
Flo is preceded in death by her parents Charles Roumillat, Sr. and Luna Roumillat, her brother Charles Roumillat Jr., sister-in-law Lucie Roumillat, her brother-in-law Floyd Williamson, her nephew Steven Roumillat, and her niece Tina Richards.
