Margaret Mason Norman

December 29, 1926 — March 15, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Mason Norman on March 15, 2024, at the age of 97. Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love for her family and friends, and will be remembered fondly for her signature smile to all she came across. A proud native Atlantan, she was the sixth child – and only girl – born to M.B. and Margaret Mason, and admits she was spoiled by her five older brothers. She attended Peeples Street Elementary School in West End, Joe Brown Junior High, Girls High School, and the University of Georgia evening college.

She married her best friend and lifelong partner, Thomas Hall Norman, in the post World War II years, and their home was always open to friends, neighbors, and strangers who soon became friends. Margaret and Tom spent 59 beautiful years together and raised three children. Margaret’s journey on this earth was marked by her love of family, her faith in God, and her desire to give back to her community. She volunteered all her life, from the early days supporting her children in their activities and events, to the “empty nest” days standing beside Tom as they participated in and later led community service activities for the BellSouth Pioneers. After Tom’s passing in 2006, Margaret proudly took over the role of coordinating the volunteers for the USO at the Atlanta Airport, which gave her great joy.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret is survived by her children Vicki, Tommy (Judy), and Nancy (Paul Kozak), her grandson Robbie (Bethany) and great-grandchildren Cole, Annabeth, Hudson, and Eli. As we mourn the loss of Mama (“Bumba”) we also celebrate that she is now at peace and reunited with the love of her life. Her gracious smile, her ever present red lipstick and black purse, and her loving spirit will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Rand Chapel of Central Presbyterian Church, 201 Washington Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the USO of Georgia P.O. Box 20963 Atlanta GA 30320, or to Albert’s House, Inc. 4528 Candler Lake East Brookhaven, GA 30319, or to a charity of your choice.
