Martha Elizabeth Rust

August 28, 1978 — July 20, 2024

Martha Elizabeth Rust, 45, of Decatur, GA, and formerly of Adams, TN, passed from this life on Saturday July 20, 2024, at her home in Decatur. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Decatur City Church, 1995 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033, on Saturday August 10th at 10:00 a.m. (EST). There will be a graveside Celebration of Life service on Saturday August 17th at 2:00 p.m. in the Adams Cemetery, in Adams, TN, with Reverend Paul Edwards and Reverend Ken Gillespie officiating.

Martha was born August 28, 1978, in Nashville. She was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1996, and then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Wesleyan University and her master’s degree from University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She was the director for the State of Georgia Tools for Life at the Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation at Georgia Tech University. Martha presented at numerous international, national, regional, and state conferences for assistive technology and served on several disability related committees. One of the highlights of Martha’s life was being a travel referee for the USWRA (United States Wheelchair Rugby Association) in both the United States and overseas. Martha loved to travel and to see the many sights that the world had to offer. She had friends worldwide and was an “honorary aunt” to many that she met along life’s way. Martha was a member of Decatur City Church in Decatur, GA, and she touched the lives of so many people in the 45 years that God allowed her to walk this earth. She was always an independent and adventurous spirit.

Martha was preceded in death by her father: Charles Benjamin Rust. She is survived by her mother: Martha Belk Rust of Adams, by her sisters and brother-in-law: Sarah and Jeremy Cecil of Clarksville, and Nancy Gay Rust of Adams, by her nieces: Charlee and Katherine Cecil of Clarksville, and by her cat Penelope, or better known to Martha as “Miss. P”.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Stokes Brown Public Library, or to a library of your choice.
