Mary Anthony Smith

Mary Anthony Smith was an angel sent to us here on earth for 90 wonderful years. She passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012. Mary graced all she met with love, joy, kindness, and always a smile. Her angelic spirit carried her through life's rough spots. She knew life's true meaning: to love and serve God with all her heart. And serve she did. Mary was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church for 64 years. She was a member of St. Theresa's Circle, Daughters of The King, taught Sunday school, and was on the vestry. She served on search committees and opened her home to many visiting church leaders. Mary helped develop a program to provide postal addresses for the homeless, but her heart was at The Fellowship Mission, serving as an active worker for 40 years. Mary grew up in Palm Beach, FL., and attended Rollins College and F. S. U. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi and P.E.O. While attending F.S.U., she met her husband, then Lt. Wilbur Smith of Tennille, Ga. They were married in Palm Beach in 1944. She supported him while he completed Emory Law School. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage before his early death in 1983. She enjoyed many years at her family retreat on Lake Lanier and visiting family in Sunapee, N.H. Mary and Wilbur raised four loving, caring children who exemplify their parents' morals and values: Lawrence Smith Betty Lew, Anthony Smith Katherine, Kenneth Smith Carol and Marilyn Arnold Stan: grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Bennett Smith, Alexander Smith, Sarah Kathryn Smith, Emily Smith Wingfield, David Smith, Benjamin Smith, William Arnold: great grandchildren, Charles Wingfield, Owen Wingfield, Brighton Smith. Memorial service to be held at 1:00p.m.Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers contributions to Canterbury Court or St. Luke's appreciated.
