Mary B. Pickens

Mary Jimmie Barlow Pickens went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2016. She was born in 10/23/1926 in Glenwood, Georgia. Mary attended GSCW (Ga College Milledgeville, Ga) and University of Georgia. She began her teaching career in Thomaston, Ga as a Home economics teacher at R. E. Lee High school. She and her husband William Murphy Pickens moved to Gwinnett County and she began her teaching career at Centerville Elementary, Bethesda Elementary, Lawrenceville Elementary, Lawrenceville Middle and retired after 30 years as an educator from Central Gwinnett High School.  Mary was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Rho Chapter; Gwinnett and Georgia Retired teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband William Murphy Pickens, twin sister Maxie Jo Barlow Lord, twin sisters Avis Hunt and Agnes Blithe and Louise Liddell. She is survived by daughters; Carol Jo Pickens McKettrick and Mary Louise Pickens Bryant; Son in Laws Wayne McKettrick and Terry Bryant; Granddaughters:  Crystal McKettrick Story and Danielle Shepard; Grandson:  Wesley McKettrick; Great Grandchildren: Grayson Story, Carson Story and Hadley Story; Nieces: Barbara Lord Willis, Linda Lord Braswell, Jane Hunt Puckett, Margaret Diacetis, Jean McKettrick, Mary Kay Lovett; Nephews: Doug Hunt, Bob Lord, Ricky Lord, Bill Blithe, and Edwin Hunt.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel with Rev. Larry Wynn officiating.  Interment will follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park in Lawrenceville.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. and on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.  In lieu of flower, contribution in memory of Mary Pickens for Beta Rho scholarships can be sent to Kay Rossman, 3916 White Oak Lane, Lilburn, GA 30047.  Online condolence can be expressed at www.wagesandsons.com
