Mary “Olive” Buchanan King, aged 94, passed away peacefully in her home on February 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born the third child to Dallas Lee and Virginia White on August 3, 1930, in Dalton, Georgia, Olive was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Olive had a successful career in real estate and banking, where she was known for her dedication, integrity, and hard work.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Olive was an accomplished writer and poet, with writing being a beloved hobby. Her words touched the hearts of many, and her poetry reflected her deep faith and love for life and family.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Olive was a dedicated Christ follower and found immense fulfillment in praying for others and teaching Bible study. Her prayers and notes of encouragement were a source of strength and hope for many, and her Bible study classes were a place of learning about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She had a unique gift for making complex teachings accessible and relatable, inspiring countless individuals on their spiritual journeys. She specifically loved to study and teach about Heaven.
Olive is survived by her daughter, Gail Hayes; her grandchildren, Heather Stanfield (Charlie), Haley Sutton (Colin), and Ansley Davenport (Kyle); and her seven great-grandchildren, Isabel, Hayes, and Claire Sutton, Layla and Abbott Davenport, and Poppy and Charlie Stanfield. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buck Buchanan. Olive is also survived by her sister, Ella Cordle (Aaron) and beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Olive’s life will be held on March 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Ivy Creek Baptist Church in Buford, Georgia. There will be a visitation from 10:30-12 PM preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ivy Creek Baptist Missions Department.
Olive’s legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will be cherished forever.
