Maurice Wendell Johnson

Maurice Wendell Johnson, age 96, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026.

Maurice was born on September 16, 1929, in Bethesda/Lawrenceville, Georgia. A proud American and devoted family man, he lived a life marked by service, hard work, and unwavering love for those around him.

Maurice honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that reflected the strength, discipline, and character he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with General Motors in Doraville, where he worked diligently until his retirement.

Maurice was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ada Oakes Johnson; his sisters, Reba Smith and Imogene Powell; his brothers, Thomas Johnson, Gerald Johnson, James “Buck” Johnson, and Nelson “Shorty” Johnson; and his parents, Inez and Andy Johnson.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his son, Danny Johnson (Karen) of Lawrenceville, GA; his daughter, Janice Johnson Everett of Lawrenceville, GA; his grandchildren, Jamie Everett and Phillip Everett of Lawrenceville, GA, Michael Johnson (Marlene) of Commerce, GA, and Tina Pilgrim (Brandon) of Winder, GA; his great-granddaughter, Sarah Everett of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his great-grandsons, Anthony, Avery, and Andry Johnson, and Colton Pilgrim; his sisters, Joyce Thomoson, Sandra Thompson, and Carolyn Short; his sister-in-law, Frances Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Gwinnett Hall Baptist Church, 1868 Azalea Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the charity of your choice, in Maurice's memory.
