Mavis Dale Peevey

January 9, 1934 — May 9, 2025

Mavis D. Peevey, age 91, of Norcross, Georgia, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on May 9, 2025. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, on January 9, 1934. Mavis lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and unwavering dedication to serving others.

A licensed practical nurse, Mavis earned her LPN from DeKalb College in 1979 —a reflection of her lifelong commitment to caring for those in need. Whether tending to patients in hospice care, encouraging a friend from church, or offering support to her family, Mavis lived out her calling with grace, humility, and a heart anchored in Christ. Mavis was a cherished member of Creekside Community Church in Monroe, GA, where she not only worshiped but ministered with joy. Alongside her husband Phil, she found fulfillment in supporting Prison Ministry and was an enthusiastic member of the “Hot Hoagie Crew,” delivering sandwiches to first responders during the holidays. She believed deeply in the power of service and lived each day as a witness to God’s love. Her love of nature was evident to all who knew her. Mavis delighted in painting, bird watching, and gathering beautiful pieces of God’s creation to decorate her home. She often took long rides along the Ronald Reagan Parkway, marveling at the scenery and feeling close to her Creator. The joy of her heart was her daughter, Mona Lisa, and Mavis treasured the precious time they shared before Mona Lisa’s passing.

Mavis’s devotion to her family was unshakable, and she nurtured deep relationships with each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mavis was preceded in death by her mother, Ovalee Dorothy Clevenger; father, Arthur George Kiser; stepmother, Sarah Branham Kiser; and beloved daughter, Mona Lisa Peoples. She is survived by her devoted husband, Phillip Peevey; her sister, Rosemary Kiser; brothers, Bob Jones and Butch Kiser (Penny); daughters, Rebecca Sartini and Cyndi Sullivan (Steve); sons, James Peevey and Michael Peevey (Keri); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her life will be honored on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Wages and Sons Funeral Home – Gwinnett Chapel, located at 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM. Mavis will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Canton, GA 30114. Mavis D. Peevey leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her to live with open hands and open hearts, just as she did.
