Melba Morgan Holbert, age 87 of Loganville, Georgia, died peacefully on Monday, February 27th, 2023 in Monroe, Georgia. Melba was married to the late, James Pickens, on January 30, 1953, and to the late, Earl Holbert, on December 21, 2012. She owned a hair salon in Decatur and worked as a hairdresser for over 40 years. She was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. Growing up in Clearview, South Carolina, Melba was a young woman who knew the value of family and how to minister to all around her. She led a Christian life demonstrating that love was achieved through daily sacrifice. She was a beloved wife, mother, and Mema to two generations of grandchildren. Melba was survived by her daughter, Kathy Cown Tangredi, and son-in-law, Timothy Tangredi; grandson, Coleman Tyrus “Tye” Cown and wife, Shauna Cown; granddaughter, Jamie Louise Cown; and great-grandchildren: Avery and Colton Cown; Tatum Travis; Anniston McFadden; and Kaleigh and Chloe Smith. The family will receive friends at Wages & Sons Funeral Home located at 1040 Main Street, in Stone Mountain on Thursday, March 2nd, from 10-11AM. Funeral services will be helding immediately following at 11AM at Wages & Sons Chapel, interment will follow at the Historic Melwood Cemetary on East Ponce De Leon Avenue in Decatur, Georgia.
