Milton Morris Caldwell Jr.

August 14, 1951 — February 16, 2021

Dad, Brother, Cousin, Friend, U.S. Marine, Truck Driver, School Bus Manager, NASCAR Fan…Sadly, on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Milton Morris Caldwell Jr., 69, passed away at his home with his sister, Susie Caldwell, by his side.

The past two weekends were wonderful times with all his children, family and friends, spending his last few weeks on earth before joining his family and friends in Heaven with God.

Milton was born at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord, North Carolina, on August 14, 1951 to Kathryn Mayse Caldwell and Milton Morris Caldwell Sr. His stepmother was the late Christine Winecoff Caldwell of Concord, NC. His stepfather was the late Bill Heffner of Charlotte, NC/ Daytona Beach, FL. Milton grew up in Concord and Charlotte, NC. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC.

Following high school, Milton joined the Marines and served during the Vietnam era in the early 1970’s. He LOVED his time with the Marines – “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.” He attended Daytona State College after his tour in the military.

Milton enjoyed a long career in the transportation-related fields – from auto salesman in Daytona Beach, FL, truck driver and logistics manager to his current position of Gwinnett County Public Schools Transportation Bus Manager. He loved his co-workers and getting up early every morning to go to work. Though he could have retired, he always said “what am I going to do if I retire?”

His loves were family and friends, automobiles, playing cards and NASCAR. If you asked him, Daytona Beach, FL was his hometown! His favorite NASCAR driver was, without a doubt, Kyle Busch. He was also a real fan of the Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Dolphins.

Milton is survived by his children Michael Edward Caldwell (Rosemary), grandson Daniel “Boogie”, Dublin, GA; James Victor Caldwell (Ashley Garven), Fort Walton Beach, FL; Sean Patrick Caldwell (Nikki), granddaughters Evalyn, Savannah, Olivia, and Lily, Upatoi, GA; Maggie Caldwell (Brad Ellis), granddaughter Zoey, and grandson Toby, Brasselton, GA ; his sister Susie Caldwell, Pine Lake, GA; his best friends Nancy and Steve Charron, Lilburn, GA and his Caldwell cousins in North Carolina and Mayse cousins in North Carolina and Florida.

Special thanks to family friend Pamela Parker, the Palliative Care Team at Kaiser under the direction of Dr. Anna Skold and the caring folks from Bristol Hospice including Pat Daniels and Margaret Kuczynska.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. There will be a later time scheduled for a COVID-friendly service to allow family, friends and co-workers to pay tribute to Milton. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Marine Corps Association Foundation (MCAF) www.mca-marines.org .
