Mitchell Anthony Touart, Iii

Mitchell Anthony Touart III of Alpharetta, GA, a native of Pensacola, FL, son of deceased Helen and Mitchell A. Touart, Jr., died on April 9, 2014. He was a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, and served under the command of General Clair Lee Chennault of the Flying Tigers fame during World War II. His B-25 crew ferried "Rhapsody in Rivets" from Savannah to China and joined the famous "Mr. Jigs Men" of the 11th Bomb Squad." He was the recipient of numerous flying medals, awards, and commendations for his combat service in the Pacific Theatre. He was on the Board of Directors of the 14th Air Force Association, 14th AF Wall of Honor, committee member of the Museum of Aviation, Warner Robins, GA, 14th AFA Historical Preservation Trust Committee, recipient of the Chennault Medallion for meritorious and distinguished service, a member of the Atlanta WW II Roundtable, American Legion Post 201, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12002, Disabled American Veterans, and long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He served as an usher for 25 years at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and was a co-founder of the Gombe' Society. He was generous with his time and talent as a volunteer with the Salvation Army Social Services Committee. Mr. Touart was a career counselor with the State of GA, Division of Rehabilitation where he received the "Blind Man's Friend Award" and the “Innovator Citation” for his consistently creative services. Mr. Touart is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce Watkins Touart, their 3 sons and their wives: Mitchell IV (Linda), Alan (Kim), and Wayne (Debbie); 7 grandchildren: Lauren, Emily Edens, Mitch (V), Ashley, Kristin, Brennan Allen, and Evan; 1 great-grandchild, Jaylen; sister, Marilyn Ferneyhough of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Jean Richardson of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces, Kim White and Jan Livezey, and nephews, Charles and Richard Ferneyhough. His funeral mass will be held in the chapel at Saint Brigid Catholic Church in Johns Creek, GA on April 12 at 12 noon followed by a family service at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at a later date TBD.
