Mungaldeya ‘Drupatie’ Dorasami, age 88, peacefully passed on June 19, 2026. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was born on May 10, 1938 and raised in Port Mourant, Guyana. After marriage, she moved to New Dam then Gangaram in East Canje, Berbice, Guyana where she raised 5 children: Munie, Bodo, Sisto, Sam & the late Shamie. She later moving to Brooklyn, New York with her late husband. She spent the most recent years of her life in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Moonsawmy “Punch” Dorasami.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Harry Krishna “Munie” & Datalin Moonsawmy, Balkrishna “Bodo” & Shaswati Moonsawmy, Sam & Pamela Moonsawmy, Uma “Sisto” & Bryan Surujnath, Deepa Sarabjit
Grandchildren: Arun & Sarah Moonsawmy, Anoop & wife Valenie Moonsawmy, Lovena & husband Chico Ramjhattan, Melena Surujnath, Michelle Moonsawmy, Chris Moonsawmy, Shaminie & husband Ray Jahoor, Naremia & husband Kenny Barrat, Govinda & wife Ranita Moonsawmy, Vashtie Moonsawmy & husband Kris Chillamootoo, Varsha & husband Ashbel Thimmarayan
Great grandchildren: William & Ashton Ramjhattan, Alisha & Aliana Jahoor, Avreya & Viyan Moonsawmy, Ava Chillamootoo, Emily & Amelia Barrat, Ethan Eliana & Elias Moonsawmy
Her laugh was infectious, her hugs warm and her light bright. She loved to sing, dance, play the hand drum and enjoyed spending time with her family. Her stories she told and the stories of her life will carry on her legacy in this lifetime. Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at home with Lord Krishna. Her life was a beautiful testimony of grace, kindness, humility, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
