Ophelia Nunn Dempsey

Ophelia Nunn Dempsey of Stone Mountain, passed on July 12, 2013. Ophelia was born in Lithonia, Georgia, on June 6, 1921. Upon her marriage to Thomas Bernard Dempsey Jr., they moved to Stone Mountain, where she made her home and raised her family. Early on, Ophelia worked as a bank teller. After the three boys were older, she went to work for Stone Mountain Park as an administrative assistant, where she worked 22 years before retiring. She is survived by her children: Thomas B. Dempsey III; Robert S. Dempsey Diane; and Jack N. Dempsey Lisa; grandchildren Tasha Dempsey Carr, Jonathan, Dr. Amanda Dempsey Ridgeway, John and Melissa Gail Dempsey; three great grandchildren, Spence, Michael and Jared Carr, and many extended family and friends. Visitation will be held at Wages Funeral Home, Stone Mountain, on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 in the Wages chapel. Service led by Rev. Dr. Ellen Shepard. Interment at Mellwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ophelia Dempsey can be made to Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church, 5312 W. Mountain Street, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
