Palwinder Chawla

February 12, 1951 — April 10, 2025

Palwinder Singh Chawla, lovingly known as Kuku Chawla, was born on February 12, 1951, in Amritsar, Punjab, to Sardar Partap Singh Chawla and Sardarni Sharan Chawla. He was the eldest of four siblings.

Kuku spent his formative years in Amritsar, where he completed his education and earned a bachelor’s degree from Khalsa College. After graduation, he joined the family’s pharmaceutical business, where he helped countless people by providing free medication to those in need and supporting patients in every way he could.

In 1983, he married Amarjit Kaur his childhood neighbour , and in 1986, the couple was blessed with a son Jasjeet Singh In 1989, his mother relocated to the United States, and years later, she sponsored Kuku’s immigration. In 2003, he and his family moved to the U.S.

True to his resilient nature, Kuku worked 12–14 hours a day, 7 days a week for six years with unwavering dedication. Eventually, his determination led him to become a small business owner, successfully running a liquor store and building a legacy of hard work and perseverance. Kuku loved to have fun and enjoyed his drinks—but eventually chose to sell the liquor store, quit drinking, and move to a warmer city with the help of his dear friend Rajbir Grewal.

In 2015, the family settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where Kuku embraced retirement surrounded by his loving wife, son, daughter-in-law, and his cherished granddaughters, Anahaat and Avnoor. He lived his life by a simple yet powerful principle:

“Don’t look at people’s negatives—always look at their positives.”

Kuku was known for his warmth, generosity, and fearless spirit. He constantly went out of his way to help others, never hesitating to lend a hand, offer advice, or provide support. He was strong-willed yet deeply kind. Every week, he made it a point to call and connect with his entire family, keeping everyone close no matter the distance.

In 2018, Kuku was diagnosed with liver cancer. After multiple procedures and a complex liver transplant, he beat the odds—but the cancer returned just a year later. By 2020, his condition had worsened, yet Kuku continued to defy expectations. Even in 2023 and 2024, his doctors were amazed by his resilience, often asking him in awe:

“How are you still alive and walking with everything your body has been through?”

Through it all, Kuku never stopped smiling. He never complained of pain. He never showed fear. And he never gave up.

In December 2024, his health began to decline, and on April 10, 2025, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and selfless service that will continue to live on through every life he touched.

Everyone who knew him will remember how deeply he cared, how fearlessly he lived, and how generously he gave.
