Patricia Hazelrigg Blake January 16, 1941 – October 8, 2023

Pat Blake, 82, passed away at Emory University Hospital, Decatur, GA on October eighth. She had resided in Decatur since 1972. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Central Congregational United Church of Christ on November 5, 2023 at 3:00 pm.

She was born Patricia Mac Hazelrigg on January 16,1941 in Huntington, West Virginia to William Joseph and M. Katherine Peters Hazelrigg, who preceded her in death.

The family moved to South Miami, FL in 1946 and later settled in the small community of Uleta, which was a part of North Miami Beach, FL.

She graduated from North Miami High School in 1958 where she was a four-year cheerleader.

Pat continued her education at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1962.

Upon graduation, the young family returned to Miami, FL where Pat began her career as an OB/GYN registered nurse. In the early 1970s, Pat became a nurse educator at Miami-Dade Junior College.

In the next few years, the family made a move to Atlanta, GA where Pat worked at a residential home for those transitioning out of drug addiction.

Her next career move was as a health careers vocational educator at Decatur High. It was at this time that she earned her Master’s in Education degree from Georgia State University in 1981.

Pat dedicated her career to the youth of the Decatur community as a teacher and an administrator with the City Schools of Decatur from 1976 to 2002, having been named Administrator of the Year in 2001. She ended her career as interim Principal of Decatur High School in 2002.

Pat was a very active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Decatur and later at Central Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a steadfast activist for women’s rights and worked diligently for justice and peace for all people throughout her life.

Pat is survived by her husband of almost thirty years, the Reverend Dr. R. Woods Kent and her children, Ame Duan of New Orleans, LA; Carrie Harbin (Bryan) of Falls Church, VA; David Duan (Kim) of Watkinsville, GA; Barbara Kent of Clermont, FL; Kris Price of Newbury, UK; grandchildren, Alex Rankin; Savannah Van Laar (Josh); Alette Duan; Madeline James (Andrew); Sophie Duan; Georgie Logan (Stephen); Eleanor Campbell; Anwyn Price; and Maisy Price, great-grandchildren, Zoey, Wesley, Shepherd & Zealand; sisters, Sharon Ginn (Stephen) of Weaverville, NC; and Kathy Lipp of Athens, GA. Pat is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, and a multitude of other extended family and friends.
