Patricia Jane Hybarger, age 81, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was called to be with her heavenly father on December 19, 2021. Lovingly known to family and friends as “PJ, Pat, Grandma, Grammie and Gay-Gay”, she will be forever cherished by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Dawson Sloan and Melba Arlene Mote, and sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Spencer Arrowood. She is survived by her husband, John Hybarger; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lynn Hybarger; her daughter, Tracy Geary; and daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Andy Cox; her grandchildren Garrett, Cole, and Samantha Hybarger; Hayley and Chandler Geary; and Aidan Cox; her nieces, Janet Anderson and Cheryl Wooten-Davis; and brothers-in-law, Bobby and Douglas Hybarger.
Pat was born in Charlotte, North Carolina where she attended Myers Park High School and graduated college at Western Carolina University. After marriage, she lived in Durham and Greensboro, North Carolina; East St. Louis, Illinois; Kansas City, Missouri; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Buffalo Grove, Illinois; Lilburn, Georgia; Frankfurt, Germany; and Monroe, Georgia before moving to Stone Mountain, Georgia in January 2021. Her love of education led her to obtain a Masters’ Degree as a Media Specialist from Georgia State University. She taught in Buffalo Grove, Illinois; Gwinnett and DeKalb County, Georgia; and in Germany for the City College of Chicago Military Program. She finished her career teaching juvenile offenders in the Dekalb County lock down facility.
Pat was passionate about her family and friends, education, travel, walks around Stone Mountain, hunting shark teeth, gardening, golf, reading, St George Island, and UGA Football. She was always kind, patient, and ready to listen when a caring ear was needed. Her love of animals was infectious and led to homes full of furry friends. She loved her life and sought to help her family and friends join her in living life to the fullest.
