Paul Ormsby Winegar, 1966 – 2026. Paul passed away after a very courageous battle with heart disease. The son of Richard and Jean Winegar, he was born in Okinawa, Japan while his father was stationed in the Air Force. After moving back to the states, his family settled in Tucker, GA. Paul is a 1984 graduate of Tucker High School, where he proudly played baseball and football. He was an outstanding pitcher and defensive lineman. He had many achievements including Defensive Player of the Week his senior year. After high school, he attended Southern Tech and The Lane School of Art before going to work for his best friend Kevin Fruit at Fru-Art Company. He would work there for the rest of his life.
Paul loved to coach baseball and football, his true passion. He would coach all three of his kids in both sports. Paul spent over 25 years coaching at Fitzgerald Field, many of those years with the Tucker Lions, and would make lifelong friends. It was tough for him when his kids grew up and no longer played at the field. He missed coaching. Paul had a passion for sports and knew a lot about all of them. He was a fighter from the beginning to the very end. He fought for this family and for himself, no matter the reason. He was a family man, through and through.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Richard Winegar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kathy Winegar. Together they raised three children: James Stuck, Matthew Winegar, and Kari Leadingham, and son-in-law David (Teddy) Leadingham. He is also survived by his sisters Susan Guest and Jill Whelchel, brother-in-law Howard Whelchel, his beloved grandson Levi Leadingham and granddaughter Blaklee Stuck, as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Paul will truly be missed by everyone he coached and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Forever our Coach.
A service celebrating Paul’s life will be held on January 24, 2026, at Fitzgerald Field in Tucker, Georgia.
