Peter Nakelski, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born on April 12, 1938, in Glen Head, NY, Pete was a proud graduate of Paul D. Schriber High School in Port Washington, NY, class of 1957. Following high school, he served with honor in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class. Pete’s naval career was distinguished by his service aboard the aircraft carrier CVS 45 Valley Forge and later at the Naval Intelligence School in Maryland. His dedication earned him the Good Conduct Award.

Pete was a successful entrepreneur, owning the Fulton Leather Goods Company in New York, NY, a testament to his hardworking spirit and business acumen. Beyond his professional life, Pete’s passions and contributions extended deeply into his community. He was a devoted volunteer with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, member #681, where he served for 41 years, and became a life member, holding various administrative positions, including past Vice President, and contributing to numerous committees. His commitment to service was matched only by his love for his family.

An avid gardener and landscape designer, Pete also enjoyed traveling the world and cherished the time spent with his family. He was actively involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, from Boy Scouts and school activities to sporting events. His warm presence, infectious smile, and positive attitude left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Nakelski; his sisters Stephanie and Irene; and his brothers John and Paul. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jessica Nakelski, who he married on June 10, 1961; his daughter Julie Arildsen and son-in-law David Arildsen; his grandchildren Christian Arildsen and Mitchell Arildsen; his son Peter M. Nakelski and daughter-in-law Lorraine Nakelski; and his grandsons Riley Nakelski and Casey Nakelski. He is also survived by his sister Antoinette and his brothers Joseph and Stephen, plus many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

Pete’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and joy, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Though he is deeply missed, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
