Phillip Eugene Baker

September 24, 1940 — February 4, 2022

Phil was born in Akron, Ohio, to the late Clarence and Elizabeth Baker.

Dr. Baker and his late beloved wife, Beverly, were well-known and loved members of the Tucker community for over fifty years.  In his early years, he grew up in Akron, Ohio, where he was on the Ohio All-Conference football team and graduated from Kent State University.

He also proudly served our country for several years as a medic in the United States Air Force stationed in Pakistan.

Dr. Baker married his first true love, Beverly and enrolled in dental school.  Dr. Baker graduated from dental school at Georgetown University and with Bev, they embarked on a journey to determine the best place to raise their family and open a practice.  After a cross-country trip, Tucker, GA, was the place that spoke to them and that is where they settled to proudly raise their three devoted sons.

Dr. Baker first started seeing patients as he joined local dentist Dr. Anderson’s practice and then later, opened his practice in the heart of Tucker.  As he built his practice and changed locations before retiring, his patients continued to follow him and would drive long distances to continue services because of his loving bedside manner and personal patient relationships that he and his wife developed over the years

In his free time, if he was not supporting one of his son’s tennis or racing activities, Dr. Baker was an avid golfer.  He was known for his competitiveness on the course and would not ever “let” his wife or sons beat him.  He instilled his competitive nature in his sons which has influenced their successes today.

To his grandkids, Phil was lovingly known as “Poppy.”  Poppy loved his grandchildren fiercely and he always made sure there were swings and big wheels so that he could spend time with them when they visited.  He was always surrounded by updated pictures and memorabilia of his grandchildren and played an active role in helping guide their activities.

He was preceded in death by his loving and loyal wife, Beverly Baker

He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Clarence B. Baker, Jr.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Lynn Plummer, Akron, OH; sons Phillip Baker of Loganville, GA, Jeff Baker of Atlanta, GA, and Mike Baker, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren Holden Baker, Carson Baker, Kinsley Baker, Drew Baker, Kaya Baker and Grayson Baker; and brother in-law George Lamb with his daughter, Brooke Lamb and her children.

Phillip Eugene Baker, a Christian community steward, and life well-lived.
