Phillip Francis Gasior, age 77, of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away early Saturday morning, August 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. Known to his family and friends as Phil, he was born on July 28, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents Michael J. Gasior and Frances (Mierzwicki) Gasior preceded him in death, as well as his brothers Michael and Robert, and oldest nephew Rob. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Ann (Ney) Gasior, his daughters, Angela Gasior and Deborah Peltier, his son-in-law, William, his grandchildren, Faith, Phillip, Nathan and Lily, his brother, Daniel, sister-in-laws Joan and Rita, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phillip graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School in 1964 and joined the Air Force in 1965. While stationed in Bergstrom Air Force Base, he met Maggie and they were married in 1969. After being honorably discharged in 1969, Phil and Maggie moved to Baltimore, Maryland to start a family. He began to work for Western Electric as a forklift driver, while taking night classes at the University of Baltimore. After 6 years, he graduated with a business degree in 1975. In 1976, Phil was transferred to Norcross, Georgia with Western Electric. The family settled in Lawrenceville. Phil worked for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 32 years until his retirement in 2001.
Phil was a proud member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for 47 years. He was heavily involved in multiple ministries such as Welcoming Committee, Dinner Club, and ushering to name a few. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #13052. He served many roles in the Knights, but was proudest of his time as Grand Knight from 2008- 2010.
Outside of work, he had many other interests. He was an avid runner, having run countless Peachtree Road Races and the Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon in 2011. He loved to travel to new places and explore the local culture. He taught his family to respect the differences that exist in this world. He enjoyed working outside in the yard, and took great pride in creating an oasis at home. Phil enjoyed working with his hands, which manifested itself in woodworking. He started building simple pieces for his family, and graduated to more intricate pieces of furniture after retirement. He spent many an hour in his shed that he transformed into a woodworker’s paradise. He challenged himself with every new project and his family are the proud recipients of what are now family heirlooms.
Phil was a devoted husband, an awesome father, and a most beloved Pop. He rarely missed a chance to support his children and grandchildren. You could expect to see him at every dance recital, piano recital, art show, or selling Girl Scout Cookies. He enjoyed football games, basketball games, soccer games, cheerleading showcases or whichever sport someone was playing. Phil especially loved the band, orchestra, and chorus concerts he attended. He was known for his quick wit, his beautiful blue eyes, and leaving everyone with a smile on their face when we left them. He will be missed dearly, but we are at peace knowing he is in a better place.
