Rebecca Freeman Adams was born on October 8, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ellis Barney Freeman and Maxine Mae Freeman (née McGee) and older brother Greggory Freeman.
Rebecca grew up as an outgoing and gregarious youth participating in dance, cheerleading, and trained as a classic pianist. She graduated from Central High School in 1964, earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University in 1968 and a masters degree in education from San Francisco State University in 1976.
Rebecca was a dedicated educator who spent her life in the classroom across elementary, middle & high school and in universities. She was the Director of UC Berkeley’s Math Engineering & Science Association, served as an Assistant Principle in the Clarke County School system in Athens, GA and was a professor at Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University.
Rebecca has also always been deeply involved in her community. She owned and operated the Adams Academic After School program and taught piano lessons to talented youth in the neighborhood. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and choir director in numerous church homes. She retired as a decorated and well respected educator in 2009 with Dekalb County Schools.
Rebecca Freeman Adams passed away on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025 and is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Greggory and Ruby Freeman, daughter and son-in-law Jasmine and Brian Hampton, nephew Scott Freeman, great niece and nephew Marcus and Nia Freeman, and grandchildren Brian Jr., Aiden, Maxwell and Malcolm Hampton.
