Richard Leon Hix

December 31, 1933 — October 25, 2020

Richard Leon Hix was born December 31, 1933 in Lavonia, Ga. He moved to Atlanta in 1950. He married Lois Eloise Purcell February 12, 1954. They lived in Atlanta for 30 years before moving to Lawrenceville. Richard (Leon) worked at the USPS for 20 years and started HLH Office Machines with his brother Dean Hix. He was a Master Mason for 59 yrs. He retired from the US Army-National Guard achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 before retiring in 1993. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church for 44 years and a longtime Choir member. Richard was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. He was Daddy, Grandpa, and Uncle Leon to numerous nieces and nephews. He loved farming/gardening, working/riding on tractors, and making homemade preserves and pecan pies for family. He always put family first, and was a great role model for all. He was the caregiver for his wife (our mother) for 10 years.

He is survived by his daughters Sandy (Glenn) Manning and Cindi (Bill) Womack. His grandchildren Wes (Anne) Manning, Kristi (David) Folden, Ryan (Katie) Womack, and Lindsay Womack. His great grandchildren, Ella, Michael, and Henry Manning, Joshua and Jennifer Folden, Ava Ross and William Womack. Brother Dean (Glenda) Hix of Decatur and sister Nell (Marty) Parker of Birmingham, Al. He was preceded in death by his wife Eloise and parents Milton and Mammie Hix, brothers Kent, Phil, and Lemuel Hix, and sisters, Ann Brown and Bobbie Nichols.

Following CDC guidelines for COVID-19, a graveside service will be held for family only, November 5th, 11:00am at Georgia Memorial Park and Cemetery, Marietta, Ga. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville 165 S. Clayton St., Lawrenceville, 30046 or the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
