Roger Dial Foster

March 3, 1936 — November 24, 2024

Roger Dial Foster went to his forever home with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Mercifully, the Lord took him into His presence about two months after a fall and then an infection that compromised his lungs. After 88 years of life and many years of faithfulness to his Savior and to his family, he has joined Linda, his wife of 64 years, in heaven.

Roger was born on March 3, 1936, in Statham, Georgia. Additionally, he lived in Tucson, Arizona; Greenville, South Carolina; Norcross, Georgia and Stone Mountain, Georgia.

He was the only son of John Sylvanus Foster and Nellie Mae Dial. Roger grew up on his dad’s 100-acre cotton farm across the road from the house in which he was born. Roger graduated from Statham High School in 1954 and from Bob Jones University with a degree in Practical Christian Training in 1959. In addition to his family roles, Roger worked at Kroger and then for thirty years at Dekalb County Health Department as an epidemiologist. In 1958 he completed his Air Force basic training in Texas and served in the Arizona National Guard and then the Air Force Reserves from 1959 until 1993 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He faithfully served in the 84th Aerial Port Squadron out of Greenville and Charleston, SC which loaded military cargo planes.

He delighted in traveling the U.S and the world with his wife. He visited 49 states and many foreign countries. He especially found joy in spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was an avid Braves fan. He also faithfully served as a deacon and AWANA leader and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He was known for his soft-spoken kindness, generosity and faithfulness in all that the Lord gave him to do.

He is survived by his children (and their spouses), Jeff (Joanna), Dena (Wayne), and Tim (Laura); by his grandchildren (and their spouses), Janae, Jillian (Tim), Jessica (Dan), Jamie, Westin (Kelly), Devan(Fiance Minh), Ella and Cavner; and his 8 great-grandchildren.

Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? – Matt. 24:45 His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. – Matt. 25:21 Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. – I Cor. 4:2

On December 1 there will be a graveside service with military color guard at 1:30 pm at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA 30039 and a memorial celebration of his earthly life at 3:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 6320 Sandy Creek Rd, Loganville, GA with a visitation to follow.
