Roy Mercer, a devoted family man and respected professional, passed away on May 11, 2026, in Gwinnett, Georgia. Born on January 9, 1950, in Macon, Georgia, Roy lived a life marked by dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
A proud alumnus of Grady High School, Roy built a commendable career as a Superintendent for Rogers Construction, where his hardworking nature and leadership were evident to all who worked alongside him. His steadfast work ethic and dedication left a lasting impact on the company and colleagues alike.
Roy was known not only for his professional accomplishments but for the profound love and support he showered upon his family and friends. Described as loving, caring, and loyal, he was the person people could depend on—always providing, always there. His unconditional love and support made those around him feel cherished and secure. Particularly devoted was his care for his special needs son, Ryan, reflecting Roy’s deep compassion and strength.
Outside of work, Roy enjoyed a rich array of hobbies. He found joy in fishing, cheering for UGA Football, hunting, completing word searches, restoring cars, and boating. These interests were a reflection of his vibrant personality—active, curious, and connected to the simple pleasures of life.
Roy is lovingly remembered by his living family members: his sons Nick Mercer and Ryan Mercer; daughter-in-law Brandi Mercer; granddaughter Jillian Mercer; grandson Bryce Mercer; stepson Rusty Holley; and siblings Jack Mercer, Alonzo Mercer, Betty Roberts, Effie Gauley, and Mable Adkins. Their memories are enriched by the love and guidance he consistently provided.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Mercer, and brothers Billy Mercer, Fred Mercer, JB Mercer, and his twin brother, Troy Mercer. Also mourned by Lou Hawk, Leverne Collier, who have passed on and whose memories he carried with him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Wages and Sons Funeral Home - Stone Mountain Chapel, located at 1040 Main St, Stone Mountain, GA 30083. This service offers an opportunity for all who knew Roy to honor his remarkable life and legacy.
Roy Mercer’s life was a testament to devotion, resilience, and love. His impact on family, friends, and community endures, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
