Ruth Wellborn Knutsen

January 15, 1922 — June 11, 2010

Ruth Wellborn Jones Knutsen was born in Savannah, GA on January 15, 1922 and left for her eternal home on June 11, 2010. She also called Macon, Columbus, Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Norcross and Lilburn GA as well as Tampa, Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach and Altamonte Springs, FL; New Orleans, LA and Brooklyn, NY "home" during her 88 years of life. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Ruth Post Jones and Ezekiel Candler Jones, her sister Bette Jones Eberhard, and her husband of 61 years, Ralph Johann Knutsen. Ruth leaves behind three children - Ralph C. "Tad" Knutsen of Delray Beach, FL; Dianne E. Olson husband Robert "Bob" of Duluth; and Patrice K. Bean husband Robert "Buster" of Lilburn. Ruth also leaves seven grandchildren- Tina Knutsen Westine husband John of Delray Beach FL; Maria Knutsen Pugh husband Willard of Boca Raton FL; Brigette Olson Killion partner Rebbeca Frye of Atlanta; Michael Olson of Toccoa; Robert Olson wife Cason; Kate Bean and Maggie Bean of Lilburn. 8 Great-grandchildren: Elora Killion; John, Grayson, and Marin Westine; Chloe and Willow Pugh; Evan and Meredith Olson. Ruth is also survived by three of her sisters: Sara 1. Davis of Cleveland, GA; Barbara J. Hiers husband Jim of Cleveland, GA; and Patsy J. Smith husband Gene of Norcross, GA. Ruth's love was also extended to sixteen devoted nieces, nephews, and their families. Ruth served humankind as a teacher and secretary, but most importantly as a mother, grandmother, sister, mentor, and as defined by her name - "companion and friend". Her service to God began early as a gifted singer in church choirs and also through multiple ministries, including the Order of Daughters of the King. A communion and celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, June 19th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta where Ruth had been a member since 1965. Donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Suthers Outreach Center c/o St. Martin's church or other meaningful charity of giver's choice.
