Sam Harrison Woodruff Sam Harrison Woodruff died on August 24, 2012 following complications of Alzheimer's. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 29, 1926. He was predeceased by his parents Opal Madelane Walker and Sam Harrison Woodruff, and his sister, Margaret Walker. Sam joined the Navy in 1943, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the Vendo Company for forty-four years until his retirement. He was an avid athlete with a love for tennis. Sam is survived by his wife, Shirley Dudley Woodruff. They were married on June 18, 1949, celebrating 63 years of marriage this year. He is also survived by his sons, Ronald Harrison Woodruff Virginia Clarkson, Roger Paul Woodruff Debra Matias, and his daughter, Janet Woodruff Starkweather Gregory Allen; his grandchildren, Kyle Hardin Woodruff Katheryn, Megan Woodruff Byerly Brandon, Jacob Allen Starkweather, Dustin Paul Woodruff, Tyler Lee Starkweather, Caileigh Cambria Woodruff, and Spencer Gregory Starkweather; and his great-granddaughter, Chloe London Turner. A private family service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to MeSun Hospice of Lawrenceville, Georgia, or a charity of your choosing.
