Samuel Rhea Mathes

Samuel Rhea Mathes III (80) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17th shortly after moving to Morganton, GA to be near his son, grandson and great granddaughter. He was born in Miami Florida yet spent many years in the state of Georgia near his daughter Erin.

Samuel was survived by his three kids: Samuel Rhea Mathes IV, Tracie Leigh Thor (Mark), Erin Kyle Mathes and preceded in death by one son (Samuel Rhea Mathes V); 5 Grandchildren: Addison Moran, Leah Thor, Hannah Thor, John David Thor, and Dylan O’Farrell. 1 Great grandchildren: Aria Moran. Additionally he left behind family and dear friends: Leslie and Mickey, Vicki and Tim, Lou, Dave, Rebecca, Peggy, Bob and Art as well as many others along the way.

Samuel, who went by ‘Ray’ loved fishing, boating, traveling, skiing, all types of cuisine, and jazz. As a retired Captain for Western Airlines and a private pilot for many years he loved flying and being over the open sea.

Please join us on October 6th at Wages & Sons Funeral Home (1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046) for a visitation and fellowship from 6-7pm and memorial service from 7-8pm. Refreshments will be served in the lounge area.
