Sara Beatrice Murphree

October 25, 1920 — March 10, 2019

Sara (Sally) Beatrice Smith Murphree 98 passed away March 10, 2019. She was born in Etowah County, Alabama to Dan J. and Mary Ethel Fant Smith. She was the 7th child out of 11 children (5 girls and 6 boys). She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter and sister. Her passion was her family, especially her great grandchildren. During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter”. She riveted fighter planes from the inside in the Steel Mills of Birmingham, Alabama while the war was going on. Later, she worked in the business world and supported her husband during his ministry with the United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years Harold, her parents, four sisters and six brothers and son-in-law Dick Berry. She is survived by her daughter Janice Berry, sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Linda Murphree and Wayne and Tess Murphree, grandchildren Kimberly (Daniel) Partain, Kevin (Melissa) Murphree, Elaine (John) Hoyt and Michael (Melissa) Murphree, and great grandchildren, Dessi, Emily, Kaitlyn, Alex, Matthew, Makayla, Abigail and Mya and several nieces and nephews. The family will have a graveside service Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wagesandsons.com.
