Sylvia "Cookie" Gosney

GOSNEY, Sylvia “Cookie” Gosney, age 81, passed away December 29, 2015. Cookie was born July 20, 1934 in Albany Georgia and graduated from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing in Atlanta Ga in 1955. She met her husband Donald Arthur Gosney while working at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Atlanta, GA and they married in Augusta, GA in August of 1957. Sylvia lived in Atlanta from the early 1950’s until 2001 when she and her husband Don retired to Tavares, FL. Don passed away March 29, 2007 in Tavares, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Lynch & Ethel Keenan Lynch, husband, Donald Arthur Gosney, sister, Ethel Mary Lynch Hawthorne. She is survived by her sisters children, Susan H. Knight of Lilburn, GA and George B. Hawthorne of Anniston, AL. Also survived by grandniece, Katie K. Glass, of Snellville, GA and grandnephew, William A. Knight, of Covington, GA and grandniece Julia Hawthorne, of Oxford, AL. Cookie also leaves behind a dear family friend, the son she never had, John (Jay) Goree, of Virginia Beach, VA. Don was one of his godparents and Cookie was godmother to Jay’s son Brennar Goree. Cookie also leaves behind her beloved 15 year old cat Leo, named for her uncle Leo Keenan who was the Catholic priest at St. Patrick’s in Augusta, GA. Funeral Services will be held Sunday January 3, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain Chapel. The family will receive friends 45 minutes prior to service from 1:45 until 2:30 at Wages & Sons.
