Teresa Ann Mcelroy

September 7, 1954 — August 9, 2023

ATLANTA – Teresa Ann McElroy, 68, died at Emory University Hospital on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

The memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 1, at Atlanta’s First Baptist Church, 4400 N Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30338. Pastor John Glover will officiate the service in the Chapel at First Baptist Church.

Ann was born September 7, 1954, to William and Jackie McElroy. She spent her entire life in Atlanta, where she graduated from Therrell High School. She attended college classes at Georgia State University and worked at Rich’s department store and C&S Bank downtown. She discovered her true career at Norfolk Southern Corporation, where she was employed as a coal freight clerk in the accounting department. She faithfully worked at Norfolk Southern for 37 years before retiring in 2014.

Ann, a lifelong Baptist, was an active Atlanta First Baptist Church member for 50 years. Music brought her so much joy; she was a choir member and Preschool Children’s choir director. She served faithfully for the First Baptist Atlanta’s Passion Play for 35 years. Ann loved to play the piano for her Sunday school and singles ministry group over the years. She also loved to sing in the Exultation group, which performed for In Touch Ministries outreach concerts and conventions. In addition to her musical endeavors, she volunteered at the Missionary Care Center and Atlanta Pregnancy Center.

Ann loved Jesus. All who met her knew her zeal for sharing her love for Christ.

Ann was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt. She was a true friend to many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her niece, Julie, and husband, Paul Spearing of Chapel Hill, TN; nephew, Jeff, and wife Christy Peckham of Mooresville, NC; great nieces and nephews, Savannah, Lilianna, Bella, and Zachary Spearing, and Jonah, Ella, Haylee, Caroline, Judah, and Adeline Peckham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jackie McElroy, sisters, Trish Weaver and Brenda McElroy.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ann’s “Hens” who invested countless hours, love, and support being the hands and feet of Jesus in her challenging last 18 months. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff at Emory Hospital for their care and the comfort they provided her.
