Terry Downs, age 61, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026. He was born on August 8, 1964, in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Terry carried a light that brightened every room he entered. His radiant heart and deep love for his family and friends were evident to all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother whose greatest joy in life was supporting the people he loved.
He spent countless hours with his sons, Tyler and Travis—at skate parks, on football and baseball fields, and making special trips to Blockbuster to pick out weekend movies and games. That same dedication continued with his daughters, Mallory and Macey. Whether coaching, cheering from the stands at softball games, attending orchestra concerts, or watching Macey ride horses at Willowick, Terry was always present and proud. His talented grandson, Tate, was no exception; Terry attended every baseball game he could, cherishing those moments and the opportunity to see his beloved granddaughter, Millie.
Although he retired early, Terry proudly worked for 25 years at Deutz. He had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and racing. His KTM and Suzuki dirt bikes were among his most treasured possessions, and he loved riding in the mountains with his friends. We can only imagine he is riding those heavenly trails now. Terry also developed a gift for photography, capturing countless beautiful memories with his Nikon D90.
Traveling with his beloved wife, Lee Ann, and their girls brought him great joy. From the beaches of Destin, Florida, to the mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, their adventures created memories that will be cherished forever. During football season, Terry could always be heard cheering loudly and proudly for the Georgia Bulldogs.
When cancer once turned Terry’s world upside down and doctors gave him 18 months to live, he refused to give up. He prayed for a miracle, and God granted him 18 more years—years filled with love, milestones, and precious memories. His strength, determination, and unwavering faith allowed him to see his children grow and succeed. He held on long enough to be surrounded by those he loved the day before his passing. Terry taught everyone around him the true meaning of courage and perseverance. To his family, he will always be their hero.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Lee Ann Kasarda Downs; his children, Tyler (Jessica) Downs of McDonough, Travis Downs of Covington, Mallory (Andrew) Mace of McDonough, and Macey Downs of Locust Grove; and his cherished grandchildren, Tate and Millie Downs of McDonough. He is also survived by his mother, Arlene Avery Downs; his brother, Tony Downs of McDonough; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Downs, and his grandparents, T.A. and Mary Downs, and Harold and Maggie Wells Avery.
