Vera Wilson Obituary
Vera Wilson, lovingly known as “Sister,” was born Vera Hester on November 2, 1935, in Caledonia, Mississippi. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a woman whose life was rooted in love, laughter, and service to others.
Vera spent most of her life in Chicago, Illinois, where she built her home, raised her family, and touched the lives of many. About 15 years ago, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to live with her daughter, where she continued to share her love, wisdom, and warmth with her family.
She dedicated many years as a private duty nurse, caring for others with compassion and dedication. Serving people was not just what she did. It was who she was. As the youngest in her family, she proudly embraced being “the baby” and made sure no one ever forgot it.
She was a member of St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. Vera will always be remembered for her witty jokes, her incredible cooking, her deep love for cats, and the way she would exclaim “Oooooh my God!” whenever something surprised her. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and good food, where family always came first.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, LaWanda; her sons, John, Bruce, and Kenneth; her sister, Eva; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Hester.
Her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be announced by the family.
