Walter L. Stephens, age 87 of Snellville, formerly of Clarkston, died, Friday, June 22, 2012. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Parks Stephens. He is survived by his daughters Kathy Honea and husband Jimmy, Sugar Hill, GA, and Lewisburg, TN, Linda George and husband John, Snellville; grandchildren Jim Duren, Jr. and fiancée Marcia Hoechstetter, Steve Parris and wife Cherie; great-grandchildren, Laura Duren, Jake Duren, and John Michael Parris; brothers, Nathan Stephens and wife Georgia, Snellville, GA, Emmett Stephens, Mt. Verde, FL and sister-in-law Edna Stephens, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stephens was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, GA and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 492 in Clarkston, GA. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a salesman with the Diamond Chemical Company, and later in his life enjoyed his employment with the DeKalb County School Systems at Henderson High School in Tucker, GA. He and his wife Evelyn spent many of their retirement years in Lake Wales, Florida where they made many lasting friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain Chapel with Rev. Steve King officiating. Burial will be at Melwood Cemetery.
