William Verace “Bill” Johnston October 20, 1926 – July 18, 2021 BORN: Memphis, TN RESIDED: Tucker, GA

William Verace “Bill” Johnston of Tucker, GA, passed away after an extended illness on July 18, 2021 at the age of 94.

Bill is survived by his stepdaughter, Mary C. Chadwick of Tucker, GA; close friend and caregiver, Ginia Hencely of Tucker, GA; brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Little of Sky Valley, GA; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Little Johnston of Jasper and Dunwoody, GA; sister, Dorothy L. Johnston of Huntsville, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Julian and Anne Johnston of Smyrna, GA; sister-in-law, Dr. Chloe Little; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Helen Little of Jasper, GA; and nephew, Paul Johnston of Dalton, GA.

Bill was born in Memphis, TN. Immediately after high school graduation, he joined the United States Army. He served in the Pacific Arena during World War II. After the war ended, he attended Auburn University and graduated from the University of Tennessee, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation from college, he worked with the Corp of Engineers and General Services Administration. He retired, after more than 30 years, from the United States Department of Agriculture. After his retirement from the United States Government, he worked with Stephenson & Palmer for several years as a consultant.

Bill had a love of sports, history and travel. Bill and Hilda visited all the battlefields sites in the United States and traveled 49 of the 50 States. Additionally, they visited 30 foreign countries. He never met a stranger and could talk with anyone about anything. Hilda had her own personal travel agent. Bill was the epitome of a “gentle man”.

A special Thank You for Circle Of Friends Hospice. They were a major source of comfort and care.

A private graveside service will be held later in Jasper, GA
