William (Billy) Knight Hensler died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his home in Dallas, Georgia. A native Atlantan, he was born on November 15,1926 to Frank George Hensler and Estelle Glenn Hensler. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1944 and lived in Clarkston until he moved to Dallas, Georgia in his retirement. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. He served as Commander of the American Legion Harold Byrd Post 66. He spent his entire life as a building contractor, owning his own firm.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edna Cheatham Hensler, and his children Ted (Laura) Hensler, Toni (Roger) Hitchcock, Stuart Hensler, and grandchildren Doug (Machelle) Hensler, Daniel Hitchcock, Charity (Chris) Becker and many nephews and nieces and brother-in-law Lawrence (Sharon) Cheatham. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Estelle Hensler, siblings Al, Henry, Mary Hensler Brantley, Glenn, and Harry, son Steven Knight Hensler, and granddaughter Tanya.
Graveside service will be Thursday, December 1, 2:00 p.m., Melwood Cemetery, 5170 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Stone Mountain, Ga, officiated by Rev. James Chapman. No visitation is planned.
