William Arthur Laymon

William Arthur Laymon, age 91 of Lawrenceville, GA died at home, with his granddaughter Lauren Blaylock by his side on September 25, 2020, of natural causes.

Born January 4th, 1929 in Michigan to the late Robert F. and Letha B. Laymon. Bill graduated from Purdue University with a degree in aeronautical engineering. Following 3 years in the US Army, he launched his career spanning 4 decades as an engineer in the defense and aerospace industry beginning with North American Aviation. He retired from Rockwell International (Boeing). His most notable achievement was the program manager of the development of the AGM – 114 Hellfire missile system for the US Army. He has joined his beloved wife Joan E. Laymon of 63 wonderful years in heaven; who together reared a family of eight children – William A. Jr. (Jo Ann), Locust Grove, VA, Thomas R, Winter Haven, FL., Karen J. Stapleton (Randy), Whiteland, IN, Janis M. Sergeant, Sarasota, FL the late Robert D. (1982), Mark D.(2020) Lawrenceville, GA, David J. (Helena), Peachtree Corners, GA, and Kristin A., Lawrenceville, GA, and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his career, Bill served in various capacities of the Oak Road Lutheran Church where he was an active member for 30 years. Officiating ministers are Rev. Gary Dehnke and Rev. George Murdaugh (pastor emeritus) of Oak Road Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Road Lutheran Church, Lilburn GA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on October 20, 2020 at Oak Road Lutheran Church, 1004 Oak Road S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047.
