William Gilleland Smith

Beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and German Shepherd owner William Gilleland Smith, 89, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on April 8, 2025. Bill was born on March 30, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to William Hellings and Fannie Irene Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Vicki Anderten, sister Barbara Williams, and son William H. Smith, and survived by his son Bradford Smith, daughter Lienne Anderten-Smith, nephew Donny Williams, nephew Jimmy Williams, and Kathy Wilker as well as grandchildren Will, Marilee, Parker, Annaclaire, and Leah. He embraced many roles throughout his adventurous life such as paratrooper, geologist, scuba diver, machinist, marksman, drag racer, mechanic, mentor, and friend. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 13 at Wages and Sons Funeral Home (Stone Mountain) at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any German Shepherd rescue foundation in Bill’s memory.
