Wister Burney Ivey Jr., affectionately known as “Burney,” was born on September 21, 1938, in Lakeview, South Carolina. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful Christian, and a man whose life was defined by hard work, honesty, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family. He departed this life on November 2, 2026.
Burney was a proud graduate of Lakeview High School. He later answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1961. Following his military service, he built a long and honorable career as a hardworking and self taught electrician. He worked for 45 years as a boiler operator with the Center for Disease Control before retiring. His passion and knowledge of electrical work continued through his part-time work as an AC/electrician for Lee Labs. Burney took great pride in working with his hands and was always willing to share his skills and lend a helping hand.
A man of many talents and simple pleasures, Burney enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and electrical projects. He was a member of the Georgia National Guard and Atkinson Road Baptist Church. His Baptist faith was an important part of his life, and above all, he was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Those who knew Burney will remember him as a simple, honest, and respectful man. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He was the backbone of his family—a cherished leader, a source of strength, and a safe place for those he loved. His family knew they could always depend on him whenever they needed a helping hand.
Burney had a generous heart and a genuine love for people. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether family, friends, or even strangers. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
One of Burney's greatest joys was his family. He shared 62 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, building a lifetime of memories rooted in love, commitment, and devotion. He deeply loved his children and absolutely adored his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart. To them, he was more than a husband, father, or grandfather; he was a guiding light, a protector, and a constant source of love and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Elaine Townsend Ivey; parents, Wister Burney Ivey Sr. and Rosia Harraldson King Ivey; brothers, Wilber King, Ronnie Ivey, and J.C. Ivey; and his sister, Diann Ivey. Burney leaves to cherish his precious memories, his daughter, Laticia Hardin, and son-in-law, Eric Hardin; his son, Jason Ivey, and daughter-in-law, Carrie Ivey; his beloved grandchildren, Erica Hardin and Matthew Hardin; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
