Bernice Hope Hurlock, 91, a resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away peacefully at home with her children at her bedside on Saturday April 17, 2021. Bernice was born on September 23, 1929 to the late Roland and Mabel Dunn.
She was affectionately known as “Puncie” by many of her friends and family.
She spent her early years living in Epworth, St Ann, Jamaica surrounded by many family members. She worked in the hotel industry where she met and married her late Husband, Ronald Hurlock. From this union, they produced eight children. She migrated to the United States in 1978 with a selfless desire of improving lifelong opportunities for her children. While Bernice performed many roles in her life, her greatest joy was one of an extraordinary mother and grandmother. She was a source of strength and developed a special relationship with her grandchildren.
In her later years, Bernice enjoyed artwork through coloring, ceramics, knitting, socializing at the senior center, and cooking delicious meals for her family, especially her grandchildren. Most of all she enjoyed travelling to different states to visit her children and assist with childcare. She cherished those times, often ensuring that everyone around her was well fed with good Jamaican food.
Bernice overcame many adversities in her life. She was a powerful matriarch who has left a long legacy through her kindness, caring, love and devotion to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was persistent when others would have given up, and she loved her family endlessly.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, both parents, and eight siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters -Jackie, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Michelle (Carl) Yorktown, Virginia; Lucia (Duan) Maple Grove, Minnesota. May the God whom your Mom and Grandmother served comfort all your hearts through these moments. I will keep the family in my prayers.Love and blessings.
There is no one in this world like a mother. My deepest condolences to you and the family during this time. I remember on several occasion visiting her in Brooklyn NY. We would sit around and talk and laugh. She was very pleasant and gracious to be around. She lived a long, happy beautiful life and she will be missed. Her memory will live on forever. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Passing the value of Family through modeling life’s work as a Mom just as she had done for you and your siblings many times before. I believe that many of her hopes for her children were realized and will continue with her grandchildren. A gift and legacy to be cherished by all forever.

I write to offer words of comfort as you go through this difficult time. Losing one’s mom to death is not easy to wrap your heads around. Be comforted however, by the numerous joyous, years of memorable moments you shared with your Mother. Remember the years of treasured experiences, her smile, togetherness, and the care she gave. Your combined precious experiences and the love you shared with her will bring you some degree of peace.
May God comfort you in your time of grief. Love Courtney

God has called home his angel. May she sleep in eternal peace. What a wonderful life she lived. And To have her children around her is such a beautiful thing. What a legacy she has left behind. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on forever. Fly high mother Hurlock, fly high.

I’ve had the privilege of living with Mrs. Hurlock for a few months in New York City. She was the epitome of love and positive energy. There was never a dull moment around her. Mrs. Hurlock, to me, represented the Proverbs 31 woman – one who took pride when taking care of her home and living a Godly life for her children to emulate.
To her children: Jackie, Claudia, Lulu, and the boys – your mom was a part of my positive journey. She will be greatly missed, and I will personally relish the moments we’ve shared. I will keep you all in my prayers; my family and I send our sincerest condolences.
Keeping you all in my prayers and may her soul Rest In Peace.
Words alone cannot express the love, admiration, respect that I have for you. Mother Dear as I often called her was one of the finest most loving person that I have ever met. She reminded me so much of my mother; both small in stature but giants in their faith in God, love for families’, and always willing and ready to share whatever they had with others.
I feel truly blessed to have had her as a Mother in Law; with her quiet demeanor and a smile that would brighten any day. The years that I had the opportunity to spend with her; watching and witnessing her love for my children; was nothing short of amazing.
Today we’re here to say our farewell to one remarkable, God fearing, faith devoted woman, I’ll say to her grand and great grand kids. Your grandmother loved you all dearly; and if you want to emulate anyone look and follow her example.
Mother dear; saying goodbye is not appropriate, for I hope by trying to live a life as your faith and devotion to God; I will see you again. So until such time; I will cherish in memory that beautiful smile and loving disposition you always displayed for all to see.
God Bless you; I love you.
Your Son in Law.
Carl

Robert Hurlock..
It was a absolute great pleasure in knowing her a blessed person..with great kids and family .she have a magnificent soul which radiates around her.may her soul rest in peace….
Grandma never sat me down and gave me advice on life. Yet I’ve learned the most by watching her live life. She traveled far and wide to be with her grandkids. Even though we live far apart, we all have precious memory of our loving grandma.
Because of her passing, many tears are shed.
But Grandma was a wise woman: everyday she drew closer to Jesus, the only one who overcame death.
So the tears that are falling down my face are tears of victory because she endured and finished the race.
Praying for the family . God bless and keep ypu all. Lots of love
