Donna Weidner McEwen, age 92, of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away on July 5, 2025. Born in Reedsport, Oregon in 1932 to Louis J. and Mabel C. Weidner, she moved at a young age with her parents and her brother Louis Jr. to Southern California, where she was raised. She wed her husband Bill, a civil and structural engineer, in 1953, and began a married life that included moves to many places including England and Canada as well as Virginia, Florida and Georgia.
Mrs. McEwen worked briefly as a secretary, and after starting a family was involved in her children’s many activities. She was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, PTA, and after-school sports. She loved books and helped her children’s elementary school establish a wonderful library. After moving to Georgia in the early 1970s with her family, she was active with the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers Women’s Auxiliary, which was involved in helping to provide college scholarships for future engineers. For many of their retirement years, she and her husband were also active in civic and neighborhood organizations, and engaged in many activities with their beloved golden retrievers.
She was preceded in death in 2019 by her husband of 65 years and in 2025 by her son, Scot, as well as her parents and brother. Survivors include her daughters Kathleen M. Garrett and husband, Rex, of Atlanta, and Carol McEwen of Atlanta; daughter-in-law Debra McEwen of Flowery Branch, Georgia; and granddaughters Jessica Eryn McEwen of Gainesville, Georgia, and Elisabeth Garrett Ketcherson and husband, Sean, of Ringwood, New Jersey.
Per her wishes there will be no services; the body will be cremated. Those desiring may make donations in her memory to the charity of their choice in support of animals.
