Virginia “Ginny” W. Jones
July 27, 1933 – July 2, 2025

Virginia W. Jones, lovingly known as “Ginny,” passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 91. A longtime resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Ginny was born on July 27, 1933, in Piedmont, Alabama.

Throughout her long and meaningful life, Ginny served her country and community with dedication and grace. Her professional career spanned from 1951 to 1993, including roles as a Lab Secretary at the Army Hospital at Fort McClellan, Head Secretary at Fort Knox, and Business Manager at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her commitment to excellence and calm professionalism left a lasting impression on all who worked with her.

Ginny was a proud and faithful member of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed fellowship with her Joy Sunday School Class. Her spiritual life was central to who she was—kind, generous, and always ready with a smile.

She had a deep love for beauty and creativity, which she expressed through china painting, scrapbooking, and solving crossword puzzles. Ginny also had a special place in her heart for children and hummingbirds. Her eyes would light up anytime she was surrounded by little ones, and she could often be found at the window, watching birds and delighting in the flutter of her beloved hummingbirds.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Helena Agnes Yeatman and Eugine Stephens Wright; her sisters and their spouses: Helen W. Hollingsworth and husband Loice, Dorothy W. Wise and husband Joseph, Mildred W. Wilson and husband Ellery, Margaret W. Mortensen Bernard and husband Lanny, and Mary W. Ford Griffith and husband Billy; her brother Eugene S. Wright Jr.; and her beloved daughter, Kristina Dawnn Jones.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert M. Jones; her half-sister Freda W. Trammell; her stepchildren Maurice Wayne Jones (Teresa), Wade Lamar Jones (Yvette), and Lori Phelps; as well as five step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren. Ginny made every member of her extended family feel loved and welcomed, and her warmth and presence will be dearly missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Ginny will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your favorite nonprofit organization, in honor of Ginny’s generous spirit and lifelong love of helping others.

Guestbook

  1. I met Ginny the first day I started working at CDC. We became best friends and worked together for many years. After retirement, travel distance kept us from seeing each other; however, we were always there for each other. I will always love you, Ginny, and keep you in my heart. You are now at peace in the arms of our loving Savior. I will see you again someday. Love always. Beverly Welch
