Geraldine C. Klaes Elton, age 83, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, after an extended illness.

Born on March 31, 1942, in New Boston, Michigan, Geraldine dedicated her life to caring for others—both in her personal life and professional career. She worked for 30 years with the Gwinnett Hospital System, where her compassion, warmth, and work ethic touched the lives of countless patients and coworkers.

Geraldine found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening and watching her flowers bloom with the seasons. She also cherished going thrift and flower shopping with her daughters—outings that brought them closer through shared laughter, stories, and the delight of finding just the right piece or plant.

A beloved holiday tradition, Geraldine’s Christmas cookies were the favorite treat of the season—made with love and eagerly anticipated by family and friends year after year.

She is survived by her children, Jimmy Klaes (Denise), Jeff Klaes, Tim Klaes, Monica Klaes, and Mary Klaes; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Betty and Ann Jennifer (“AJ”).

Geraldine’s legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her.

At this time, no funeral is planned. The family invites you to share memories, photos, and condolences on this tribute page as a way to celebrate and remember Geraldine’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geraldine’s memory to the Gwinnett Humane Society, an organization she quietly supported and deeply cared about.

Guestbook

  1. I have so many memories of being at the Klaes’ hanging out with Tim and family. Mrs Klaes was as cool as they come. She always made me feel welcome. She was kind and strong. My deepest sympathies to Tim, Jeff and the rest of her family as she will be missed terribly I know.

  2. CandleImageSuch fond memories of working with Geri at Button Gwinnett Hospital! She made the best goodies , so yummy. What a sweetheart.

  3. Always looked forward to visiting Aunt Susie and my cousins. The landscaping around the house was so beautiful and something I still remember! Hugs to all my Klaes cousins during this difficult time.

  4. As a coworker with “Gerrie” we spent many working days together. Gerrie “knew her stuff,” could be sassy when she needed to be, tried to keep us all straight and was respected by all of us. She made sure our work celebrations were memorable food wise and she could be a lot of fun. She has left her hand on many lives of, not only family, patients, and coworkers, but also her many daily encounters.

  5. CandleImageI worked with Gerri at Glancy Outpatient Surgery and then Duluth Outpatient Surgery where we helped open the surgery center in 1994. I have many memories of working with her in Orthopedics and planning Christmas parties with her.
Deepest condolences to her family. I know she will be missed.
