Richard S. Baumgarten was born on June 20th, 1935 to his loving parents Harry Baumgarten Sr. and Lena Fritz Baumgarten. They resided in Owensboro, Kentucky where the family had resided since Richard’s grandparents emigrated from Germany after World War I.

Richard was a career Navy Officer, specializing in General Dentistry. During his career he was transferred to Memphis, TN where he first met his lovely future wife Patsy Burns. The two were married in 1963. Richard resigned his commission in the Navy and joined the Army Reserve to complete his training in Oral Surgery. During this time, the couple had two amazing children, Richard and Rebecca. The family moved to the Hidden Hills neighborhood in Stone Mountain.

In 1990, Richard was called back to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. He earned the rank of Full Bird Colonel before his last assignment at the VA Hospital in Decatur, GA. After this, he finally retired from the military. Since that time, he spent his life loving and giving back to everyone he met while also enjoying his two wonderful grandchildren, Justin Michael Baumgarten and Ruby Grace Hardin.

Richard was an incredibly funny, spontaneous, and kind soul who will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. He lived to be 90 years of age before being called “home” on July 26th, 2025.
