Atlanta, Georgia
Resided in:
Dacula, Georgia
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George Ronald Dykes, lovingly known as “Ron,” who left us on September 18, 2025, just days shy of his 73rd birthday. Ron was born on September 22, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, and resided in Dacula, Georgia, for much of his life.
A man of many talents and passions, Ron was a proud member of the Georgia Air National Guard, serving his country with honor and dedication. He was an Eagle Scout, a distinction that reflected his commitment to service, integrity, and leadership. Ron’s legacy of helping others extended beyond his military and scouting duties; he was an original member of the D.O.B.E.R. Society, a tight-knit group of friends he cherished throughout his life.
Ron had a long and distinguished career with the DeKalb County Police Department, where he served from 1975 until his retirement as Deputy Chief in 2005. Known for his unwavering dedication to public service, he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, both in and out of uniform. His contributions to the community and his leadership will not be forgotten.
Outside of his professional life, Ron was a man who loved deeply. He had a passion for motorcycles, reptiles, and the outdoors. Whether riding his motorcycle, spending time with his beloved family and friends, or tending to his plants, Ron found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for nature was also reflected in his time spent at the family farm in Jakin, Georgia, where he found peace and solace.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, George Fred Dykes; paternal grandparents, John Henry Dykes and Hattie Lou Dykes; and maternal grandparents, Julius Brown and Leitha Sessions Brown. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marcia Foster Dykes; his loving mother, Maxine Brown Dykes; his daughter, Michelle Dykes Hamby (David); his son, Justin Dykes; his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Hamby and Miles Hamby; his sister, Lynda Dykes Talmadge (Bill); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will also be remembered fondly by his two loyal dogs, Rosie and Joe.
In honor of Ron’s love for animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Reese’s Rescues in Memory of Ron Dykes. Contributions can be made via PayPal at or by mail to Bold Springs Animal Hospital, 4953 Bold Springs Road NW, Monroe, GA 30656.
Ron will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him were the pillars of his character, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. Rest in peace, Ron. You were truly one of a kind.

Daddy, I just don’t have the words. I have found comfort in talking to all of your wonderful friends and hearing the stories they tell me. I find peace in knowing that you didn’t suffer and we weren’t tasked with making a decision to end your life. You were loved by so many! I know you left us being so proud of your family. You loved your people hard, but not as hard as I loved you. I promise to take care of Dama and Mom for the rest of my life. They will never want for anything. I will miss and love you for the rest of my days. ~Chelle~
PS-you were right about Dama out living us all! We will celebrate her big for 101 years old next month.
With Love, Dr. Curtis Williams and Susanne Williams
It had been years since I had seen you but I knew how Aunt Maxine so loved and depended on you.
My sympathies to your family. May God provide them peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Maxine, Marsha, Michelle and Justin I’m so sorry for your loss and I can’t believe this time came so quick and so unexpectedly. I always enjoyed our time, texts, and phone calls that we had over the last 15 years and more so our lunches that we would go on in our search for the best barbecue joints! 😜 I know you all will miss him more than words can say, and I too will miss my buddy! Always here for you yall.
I know you and Jamison are riding across the sky with so many others. You will be missed.
I met Ron June 2019 in Bardstown, KY at a DOBer (biker) annual gathering of 16 Brothers from around the country. I was blessed to connect with Ron (aka Brother Snake), and his Son In Law David aka Hambone. We became fast friends then. Ron had a recent eye surgery and was reticent to ride his bike back to GA due to sight issues. I offered to trailer his bike back to Atlanta while he rode shotgun with me. Initially, Ron was determined to ride back but at the end of the weekend he relented and agreed to trailer back. We had a long time to connect during that trip back and over the years since at Motorcyxle rallies and special DOBer events. I will be forever grateful to have known a man that was truly “one of a kind”. A gracious, humble, witty, proud and thoughtful man. Many DOBers, including myself, had the opportunity to reconnect with Snake between 9/5 and 9/7 in Charleston, SC during our annual event named Low Country Hoe Down. Little did we know that God would be calling him home shortly after. RIP Brother Snake. You will be sorely missed by the Brothers whose lives you touched. As a memorial, Brother Scott Schmidt aka Lambo who is in the midst of climbing Mount Everest sent this to me which I thought pertinent to share: Send my Regards and Love from a brother
Yesterday we went to Tengboche and went into the Monastery – it is one of of the holiest temple in the Buddhaist World
It sets on a mountain perch with full view of Everest
We set and prayed while the required Monk chanted
I had my Sherpa meet the young Monk to bless a sacred Khada Scarf
It will be placed in Snake’s Honor at the Base Camp Prayer Flag and Monument in 3 days from 9/25/25.
Elevation 17,700’ / 5364m
Becky & I are very sorry for you and the family’s loss of Ron. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
We were able to watch the sweet service on the Wages streaming service.
We pray the Lord comforts you and the family during this grieving time.
Sincerely,
Johnny & Becky Bearden
