Wayne Curtis Robertson, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, after suffering several years of dementia and recently a hip break. Born in Greensboro, NC on February 18th, 1942, Wayne was a brick mason, trained by his beloved grandfather Graham Heath who raised him alongside his aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Joe Councilman after he was separated from his mother Dorothy Yates Heath at the age of 9. Wayne’s father was Curtis Ray Robertson who passed away in 1957.
Wayne spent his childhood with his cousins Dale and Barry Councilman and his brother Richard Robertson, sisters Ann, Sandra and Theresa in the Greensboro, NC area. There are rumors of riding a horse through his high school, working on cars, horse stables and general mischief and mayhem. But family was always the center of his life. Wayne married Tina Flynn in 1963 and had two daughters, Memoree Lee in 1963 and Melissa Lynn in 1967. Wayne brought his young family to Stone Mountain, Georgia area in 1969 where he expanded his advanced skills as a brick mason, to contracting. He built or repaired countless structures around the Atlanta area including dozens of Waffle Houses, banks, commercial buildings and homes. Wayne started each day at 4 or 5 am with a pot of coffee, his Marlboro’s and a notebook to plan his day before heading off to a job site in his big red truck. And if he needed to bail a crew member out of jail or give them a ride, he did it.
Wayne remarried in 1973 to his love, Nancy Dameron (1939-2021), and they had a son, Brad Robertson. ). He built the family home in Lithonia Georgia in 1988, and it is instantly recognizable with a distinctive wishing well in the front. The family grew in love, togetherness and traditions as Memoree married Waldo (Tiger) Emerson in 1988and Melissa married Gerald (Gerry) Hansen in 1990. Wayne and Nancy were beloved by their grandchildren Dylan Patrick Hansen (1993), Kodell Louise Emerson (1994), Ellora Lee Emerson (2001). Brad married Ashley Helms in 2012 and their family of 6 children followed: Graham Bradley (2013), Ava Joy (2015), Oakley Pierce (2017), John Liam (2020), Mason Otis (2023), and Leah Ash (2024). His first great granddaughter, Selah Emunah, was born in May 2025 to Kodell and Jae Foster.
Wayne was a homebody but also a softball coach, a natural athlete, a water-gun enthusiast, and a music lover. Whatever sport or interest a family member enjoyed, he would show up to support! And family gatherings always included good food, lots of laughter, hugs and plenty of stories and meaningful, heartfelt conversations.
Wayne is also survived by his extended family of Wendy Robertson and Cameron Nelson, Labreeska, Casey, Travis & Joel Councilman, ex-wife Tina Gunter and cherished friends Fred & Janice Slieper, Chad Slieper, Flip Lanier and his entire family, and Jack and his daughter Terri Ashworth,
