Alba Ruiz Córdoba

Alba Ruiz Córdoba, 84, passed away in the early morning hours of July 4, 2024 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Her loving husband of 62 years, Gilberto Ruiz, was at her side in her last moments. She was born on December 9, 1939 in Armenia, Colombia.

Alba grew up in Armenia, Colombia, where she attended and graduated from Colegio del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, Bethlemitas Armenia, where she was a member of the school’s basketball team. She married Gilberto on December 2. 1962. Their first child, Carlos Ruiz, was born on September 19, 1963 in Cali, Colombia. The following year, she and Carlos immigrated to the United States and joined Gilberto in New York who had traveled earlier to the U.S. to prepare for their arrival. Alba’s second child and only daughter, Monica Young, was born on April 20, 1966, in Queens, New York. Her third child, Marco Antonio Ruiz, was born on Alba’s birthday in 1974. Sharing their birthdays on the same day is an occasion that remained very special for both of them throughout the years. Alba’s first grandchild, Estefania “Nani” Chirinos, was born on July 17, 1985. Alba helped raised Nani & treated her more like a second daughter.

Alba was a very devout Christian her entire life. She was a woman of strong faith who taught her children about God and always was a great example to them of God’s love, mercy, and grace. She enjoyed going to church on Sundays and always encouraged her children to go to church and to pray whenever they felt that they needed God’s blessings. She was known to be an extremely hard worker with an admirable work ethic. She worked hard to ensure that her family’s needs were met. She took jobs that were physically very demanding, but she did it in order to help provide. Alba worked for several well-known companies throughout her life, including Paine Webber, Waldorf Astoria, Bulova, Standard Motors, and Publix. She also worked as a nanny where she helped care for her employer’s children.

Anyone that knew her, knew that she was a happy and funny person, with a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh. She was a beautiful woman with a sweet smile. Throughout the years Alba enjoyed listening to music, dancing and singing. She enjoyed watching her soap operas. She loved going to casinos to try her luck at the slot machines. She enjoyed trips to the beach. She loved her dogs, Rocky and Benji. It was important to her to keep a clean and orderly home. She also obsessed about making sure that anyone in her home was fed. She loved her native country, Colombia. She enjoyed watching news regarding Colombia and loved to eat Colombian cuisine. Alba also very much loved the U.S. and was grateful to live in this great country of ours. She realized that moving here gave her children the best possible opportunities. Alba loved this country so much that she became a naturalized U.S. Citizen on October 13, 1995.

Alba is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Gilberto; children, Carlos (Kelly), Monica, and Marco (Elisabeth “Lisa”); grandchildren, Estefania “Nani” Chirinos (Jose Gabriel Chirinos), Sye Jackson Young, Sirrell Austin Young (Emily Dawn Hollums), Rachel Gabriella, Emma Rose, John Carlos, Amaia Isabella, Sebastian Gabriel, and Dayana Mia; and great-grandchildren, Shay Brooke, Ryland Axel, Anthony James, Matthew Xavier, and Brooks James. Alba remained very close to her brother Miguel Rios and his wife, Elvia. She also remained close to their daughters and their beautiful families. She is also survived by her brother Fernando Mivelli, and his family.

Alba was devoted to her husband and entire family and took special joy being involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found life-long love with her husband and often expressed gratitude for the wonderful life she lived and for those she shared it with. Alba was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved with all of her heart and always encouraged those around her to be better versions of themselves. She will be remembered by those that knew her best as a loving, selfless, and very sweet person.

In Celebration of Life, a service will be held at 5:00 pm, Sunday, July 14th, 2024 in Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Ga. with Pastor Ken Kytle as Celebrant. The service will be held in Spanish and English.

Alba fue una cristiana muy devota toda su vida. Era una mujer de fe firme que enseñó a sus hijos acerca de Dios y siempre fue un gran ejemplo para ellos del amor, la misericordia y la gracia de Dios. Le gustaba ir a la iglesia los domingos y siempre animaba a sus hijos a ir a la iglesia y a orar cuando sintieran que necesitaban las bendiciones de Dios. Era conocida por ser una trabajadora extremadamente dura con una ética de trabajo admirable. Trabajó duro para garantizar que se satisficieran las necesidades de su familia. Aceptó trabajos que eran físicamente muy exigentes, pero lo hizo para ayudar a mantener a su familia. Alba trabajó para varias empresas reconocidas a lo largo de su vida, incluidas Paine Webber, Waldorf Astoria, Bulova, Standard Motors y Publix. Alba se mantuvo muy unida a su hermano Miguel Ríos y su esposa, Elvia. También permaneció cerca de sus hijas y de sus hermosas familias. También le sobreviven su hermano Fernando Mivelli y su familia.

Alba estaba dedicada a su esposo y a toda su familia y disfrutaba especialmente de estar involucrada en las vidas de sus nietos y bisnietos. En Celebración de la Vida, se llevará a cabo un servicio a las 5:00 pm, Domingo, del 14 de Julio de 2024 en la Funeraria Wages & Sons en Lawrenceville, Ga. con el Pastor Ken Kytle como Celebrante. El servicio se realizará en español e inglés.
