Barbara Ann Hemmings, Duluth, 85, passed peacefully on March 13, 2024, surrounded by her family. Barbara’s life was one of great love for her family and one of dedication and service to her community. She was involved in community service including volunteering for numerous charity events with the Women’s Club of Sugarloaf County Club and she was known as the “Queen of Sugarloaf”. She made donations to the Quinn House, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and many others. Barbara was a great animal lover and was also involved with several organizations with her daughter, Kathy, including Paw Project of Georgia and The Georgia SPCA. Barbara never met a stranger and was always there to help where she could. She always said, “there but for the grace of God go I”. She and husband, Waymon Hemmings, founded their company, BAH Express in 1990. B.A.H. is for Barbara Ann Hemmings. Barbara was the Secretary and CFO of the company, Waymon is CEO, their son, Mike Hemmings is President and their daughter, Kathy, is the administrative officer. Barbara’s courage and strength lives on in her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Waymon Hemmings, their daughter, Kathy Elaine Hemmings, their son Michael Wayne Hemmings and his wife Kathy Greene Hemmings, and their children: Kendall Jared Hemmings and his wife, Anna Elizabeth Hemmings, their son Eli; Madison Hemmings Kane and her husband James Patrick Kane, and their children Skylar and Tucker, Hunter Garrett Hemmings and his fiancé Paisleigh Whitten Price. Barbara is predeceased by her mother, Nettie Mae Brown, Atlanta, her brothers, Pat Brown and Bobby Brown, Atlanta. Her “family” also included her beloved dogs, Jack and Jill, and Sam, and her many friends. Her family thanks Christine and Paul Freestone, Australia, Jan and Brian McPheely, Duluth, Ginger Barber, Duluth, Janet and Dan Sims, Duluth, Margaret Washburn, Duluth, Eric Ballinger, Canton, Mike and Stephanie Townsend, Suwanee, and the wonderful people that work for Sugarloaf County Club for their help and friendship during this time. We honor Barbara Hemmings for the light and love she brought into this world. She will be missed so much but she will live on in the hearts of her friends and family. Our Angel on earth is now God’s Angel in Heaven. Rest in Peace, Sweet Lady.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s name to either Paw Project of Georgia, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
