Betty Heusel of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 24th, 2014 while doing what she loved best—spending time with family. She was born on March 17th, 1937, to Mr. and Mrs. Gardere F. Moore. Betty grew up in New Orleans, LA and graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy where she was an avid alum of the Class of 1955, having attended her 58th class reunion in 2013. She married George Francis Heusel, Jr. in 1958 and began her legacy of six children and eleven grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She was a saint in the eyes of many as she endured the countless needs that a family so large can bring. She was always willing to help with rocking babies, sitting for children, car pooling, shopping for school supplies and clothes, baking for the holidays, making hand-made needlepoint stockings for each new birth, hosting birthday parties, Thanksgivings and Christmas celebrations. Travel was one of her many passions, and she realized her "pipe dream" in 2008 when she took the entire Heusel family on an incredibly memorable vacation to Costa Rica. True to her New Orleans heritage, Betty loved a party and to entertain family and friends especially when it involved following her beloved New Orleans Saints. She turned that love of celebration into her most important mission and expression of faith throughdevotion to her beloved church and the Corpus Christi family, helping to coordinate the funerals and life celebrations for its parishioners. Faith, forgiveness, love and joy were Betty’s guide posts in life. She leaves behind many who will be forever grateful for her example and tireless love. Betty is survived by her children: George Heusel, III (wife Alice); Gary Heusel (wife Cindy); Donna Roberts (husband Dale); Susan Ortiz (husband Darrell); David Heusel (wife Allison); Colleen McGuire (husband John). Grandchildren: Robert Heusel (wife Meg),Rebecca Roberts, Sarah Heusel, Heather Fletcher (husband Chris), Gary Heusel, Jr., Andrea Roberts, Harrison Heusel, Sean Roberts, Elizabeth McGuire, Catherine McGuire and Aidan McGuire. Family visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8th from 6-8pm at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, GA. Funeral mass will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, GA on October 9th at 11:30am with reception at the church to follow. She will be buried at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, GA (across from the Monastery of the Holy Spirit). Betty has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Georgia, Corpus Christi Funeral Ministry or Mattie Jones Hill Scholarship Fund (https://mattiehill.org/). .
