Beverly Guthrie Lougher 81, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on February 9, 2022.

Beverly was a native of Lawrenceville, GA and retired from ASK Research & Development, Inc, Norcross in 2005.  She was born in her grandfather, John W. Guthrie’s home on Pleasant Hill Road April 28, 1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John B and Edna Raby Guthrie, her husband of 55 years, James E. Lougher, and her sister Hazel Underwood.  She is survived by her sons, Andy (Laurie), Scotty, Wynne and her grandchildren, Cody and Brooke, her brother-in-law, Charlie Underwood, her brother-in-law, David Lougher and sister-in-law, Delores Lougher.  She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.  She was blessed with many cousins – Helmic, Lougher, Raby, and Guthrie.   Her pride and joy were her family, and her favorite saying was “Family is everything”.  Growing up in the extended Guthrie family was a blessing to her with many wonderful memories.

Beverly graduated in 1958 from Rabun Gap Nacoochee High School, Rabun Gap, GA and in 1962 from North Georgia College, Dahlonega, GA.  She was active with the Rabun Gap Alumni Association, especially the 1950 decade’s alumni, led by the Rabun Gap alumni leaders, Janie Owens and Laura Schott.  The 50’s alumni, volunteered by Dale Denham Shaffield, class of 1959 worked with Burma Coleman and Billy Joe Stiles to create the gardens for the new Alumni Heritage Center.  Working as a team, Beverly, Carol Dickerson Dunbar, class of 52 and Jim Darnell, class of 57 created the Alumni Memorial Brick Walkway.

Beverly and Jim loved to travel, especially the National Parks.  Beverly captured the beauty of the parks with her camera.  Jim was a gardener and created rhododendron and azalea gardens at their home.  In the spring the gardens are a show place.  Beverly tried to grow flowers, but the deer ate them as fast as she planted them.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to these two places below:

    I miss my best friend.

  4. CandleImageMy deepest sympathy to the family. Bev was a wonderful sweet lady and I am so happy to have been a friend. Thanks to RGNS that made that possible. Prayers for the family

  5. CandleImageBev will be sorely missed in our neighborhood. She was delightful and a friend to us all. Her intelligence and wit was plain to see and we would always consult when protecting the neighbors from zoning and encroachment. She’s one in a million. I’m comforted knowing she’s with her beloved husband now. Rest In Peace

  6. CandleImageBev and I were first cousins and friends. You and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved your mama very much and am thankful we will see her again. ❤️

  7. Bev, I will miss you so! We had such fun over the years. Rest in peace, and I’ll meet you on the other side! I hope you can watch Yellowstone from up there! I love you!

  8. My deepest sympathy to the family. I knew Bev from high school at RGNS. Over the years, she was always so helpful anytime I called. I had the greatest admiration and respect for all she did concerning our 50’s alumni. Bev, I am happy to have been your friend. Rest In Peace. One day we will have another “reunion”!

  9. CandleImageBeverly was a year ahead of me at RGNS. She was a terrific ballplayer and a cherished friend. God bless her family.

  10. CandleImageFor most of those fifty-five years of her marriage Dottie and I were blessed with knowing Bev and spent every hour we could with her and Jim while visiting in Georgia and elsewhere when our paths would cross throughout our travels. Our connection grew stronger over the years as they often hosted high school class reunion parties at their home in Lawrenceville. We will forever be grateful for Bev’s friendship, her kindness and the very positive impact she had on our lives as we navigated the somtimes rough waters of aging together. Her memory will not fade, and her light will continue to shine bright in our lives.

  11. I worked with Beverly at Telecorp where she worked toward equal pay for women like me. My sincere condolences.

  12. CandleImageBev was one of the first Rabun Gap alumni that I met over 16 years ago. I always admired the special way she cared for her alma mater and cherished the relationships that were built on campus.
She was a tireless worker to serve the school and had an amazing capacity to keep up with dozens and dozens of classmates. A faithful servant in so many, many ways, Bev gave of herself with both humility and conviction. Our deepest condolences to her many friends and family. We are blessed that she was such a special member of our Rabun Gap family.

  13. I’ll never forget my first time meeting Bev. I was so nervous because I knew how much Wynne adored his mama. And rightfully so; she welcomed me into the family with open arms and made me feel right at home. Bev will be missed by so many. The Guthrie and Lougher families are continuously in my prayers.
