Bhagvat Kumar Joshi

December 27, 1932 ~ August 5, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Bhagvat Kumar (B.K.) Joshi, born as Bhagvatishankar Keshavram Joshi, on August 5, 2024 in Atlanta, GA, at the age of 91.
Dr. Joshi is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Malti. He is survived by his son Sunil, daughter Lopa, daughter-in-law Shelly, and grandson Shaan.
Dr. Joshi was born on December 27, 1932 in Mahuva, India to parents Keshavram and Gulab Ba Joshi, as the youngest of 11 siblings. He graduated from Ahmedabad College in India and obtained his PhD in Political Science from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He then became an esteemed Professor of Political Science and World History at Albany State College (now University) in Albany, GA. On March 1, 1973, he married Malti Parikh in Washington, D.C. and they settled in South Georgia where they started a family and raised their son and daughter. Along with his wife, he also owned and operated the Fairfax Motel in Leesburg, GA for a decade. He retired from academia in 2001, after which he enjoyed traveling with his wife and close family and friends. Some of their favorite destinations were Hawaii, Alaska, Switzerland, the Panama Canal, and Egypt.
Dr. Joshi was also very passionate about current events and the stock market. In his later years, he was a devoted caregiver for his wife. Dr. Joshi will be remembered as a kind and trusted advisor, as well as a lively storyteller. He was instrumental in sponsoring several family members to emigrate from India and settle in the United States in the 1970’s, and in helping several friends in his community acclimate along the way.
On Sunday, August 11th, we will gather to celebrate the life of this devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather, who made his mark as an inspirational trailblazer in both his family and his hometown.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation in memory of Dr. B.K. Joshi. AMDF is a non-profit organization committed to the prevention, treatment, and cure of Macular Degeneration, a condition that impacted him for many years (link: https://www.macular.org/want-to-help/donate).

Dear Sunil & Shelly,
It brings me great sadness to hear about your father’s passing. After meeting you, Sunil, I believe that your father was a unique person. I hope that his pleasant memories bring you comfort as you mourn this significant loss.

Much love to you and Shelly 🙏
🙏Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantihi.🙏
May his soul rest in peace. He is not here but his memories and values are also there to follow. Rest in peace nanakaka.
I am so sorry for your loss. I was so lucky to be able to visit Lopa and Mama couple of times in past year. My last visit in April 24 was very precious. Mama and I had a very good talk. I was surprised to to see him remembering so many relatives and asking to me how they are doing, including my parent. He asked me, when will I visit next? I said soon. I guess, it was not soon enough.
will miss you.
Deepest condolences and sending lots of love to Sunil, Lopa, Shelly and family. We never met Dr. Joshi but he raised two wonderful children, which only indicates the great character he must have had. May Dr. Joshi rest in peace
Such a wiseman, words can hardly describe.
He is always in our prayers. May his soul rest in eternal peace🙏🌹🙏
